Aloo Poha

Originating from India, Poha also known in many other names such as aval, pauwa, sira, chira, chivda, or avalakki, is flattened/beaten rice flakes. A variety of dishes are made from Poha.

Ingredients :

   
Aval (thick) - 1cup
Onion - 1 medium sized 
Green Chillies - 1 or 2 
Potatoes - 1 small cubed 
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp 
Lemon juice - 1 tbsp 
Salt - as required (1/4 tsp) 
Mustard - 1/4 tsp 
Curry leaves - 1 sprig 
Sugar - 1/4 tsp

Cooking Method :

  • Wash Poha under running water for 2 mts and drain

  • Heat a tsp of oil in a pan add mustard seeds when it splutters add onion and saute till it becomes transparant, add green chilli, cubed potatoes and salt, and cover with a lid till potatoes are cooked.

  • By this time poha would have become soft. Fluff it gently with a fork and add to the mix . Mix it with lemon juice, Sugar, turmeric.

  • Open the Lid and keep for 2-3 mts. Garnish with coriander leaves, crushed and fried peanuts and grated coconut and Aloo Poha is ready to serve.
