Heat oil in a pan, put red chillies, gram dal and coriander in to it and fry for a minute.
Turn off the stove and allow it to cool.
Transfer the contents into a mixer jar along with scraped coconut and grind it well.
Boil toor dal and the remaining gram dal together. Keep it aside.
Boil water in a vessel, put bitter gourd, salt, turmeric powder, 2 tbsp of tamarind pulp and let it boil well. When it is cooked, filter the excess water, add the ground mixture, cooked bitter gourd, boiled Dal and tamarind pulp into it and sauté on a medium flame.
Turn off the stove, add asafetida and curry leaves, and mix well. Pour one tbsp of oil....
Now the dish is ready … Serve it with rice.
