Method of Preparation :
Clean and wash the fish. Cut into medium pieces, rub in salt and set aside. Grind all the other ingredients (except the onion, tamarind and oil) into a paste with a little water. Soak tamarind in one cup of water for sometime. Strain and keep aside.
Heat oil and sauté chopped onions till golden brown. Add ground paste and fry for a minute. Add tamarind water and bring to a boil. Add fish and cook on low heat until tender. Add salt if needed.
Note : Ambot Tik can also be prepared using meat.
