Cooking Method :

Soak chana dal for 4-5 hours in water. Drain water soaked chana dal, and boil it with 1 cup of oats and enough water in a heavy bottom pan under medium flame. Continue to cook for around 15 minutes. Add Vanilla essence for flavor, and keep sautéing intermittently until the chana dal is properly cooked. Switch off the stove and let it cool. Add 2-3 tbsp of sugar to the Oats chana dal brew, mix well and keep aside.

Now lets prepare the seasoning. Heat 4-5 tbsp of ghee in another pan. Add cumin seeds and pepper seeds and let it splutter. Add chopped green chillies along with curry leaves and thinly chopped ginger pieces and sauté well. Now you can feel the aroma emanating the kitchen. Pour the seasoning on the Oats Pongala mixture and serve hot.
