Mung Dal Pilao

Mung bean, also known as green gram or golden gram is native to the Indian Subcontinent and has been a part of its cuisines for over thousands of years. Mung Dal Pilao is a vegetarian dish, of rice cooked with mung bean dal in coconut milk, and seasoned with ghee.

Ingredients :

Water - 3-4 cup
Basmati rice - 1 ½ cup
Mung Bean - 1 cup
Coconut Milk - 1 cup
Ghee - 4-5 tbsp
Onions - ½ cup

Cooking Method :

Lets begin by cooking rice. Add 3 cups of water in a thick bottomed pan under medium flame, to this lets add 1 and half cups of Basmati rice, a cup of mung dal and salt to taste. Once the water boils, add coconut milk into the pan and continue stirring. Once the rice is cooked, using a sieve drain out the water and keep aside the cooked mung dal rice.

Mean while in another pan lets prepare the seasoning. Add 2-3 tbsp of ghee and let it heat up. Add chopped onions sauté for sometime until the onions turn golden brown. To this add the formerly cooked mung dal rice and mix well.

Mung dal Pulao is all set to serve. It can be served along with sugar and is a simple recipe, which can be made within 15 minutes
