CAMP (established 2007) is a collaborative studio organized by Shaina Anand and Ashok Sukumaran that focuses on independent artistic and media work.
Shaina is a documentary filmmaker and artist, whose works create new assemblies from within contemporary media territories: television, cable TV, surveillance infrastructures, video archives – towards further possibilities for the image and narrative. Ashok was trained as an architect and media artist, his interests are in technical and conceptual expansions of so-called network cultures.
CAMP manifests through both short and long-term projects relating to media and its history, its formats and distributions. The processes enacted by CAMP often follow the spirit of open source communities, and work closely with old and new technical systems. The artists’ individual practices are reflected in the group’s work.
CAMP members have received many honours including: the Sharjah Art Foundation Production Program 2011, Jury’s first prize, Sharjah Biennial 2009, a Golden Nica at the Prix Ars Electronica 2007, and the First prize at the UNESCO Digital Arts Award, 2006, among others.
