Debutant writer- director Kaushik Roy 's 'Apna Asmaan' tells the story
of complex layers in a parent child relationship and also the nuances
of forced expectations of parents thrust on children.
The story of the film revolves around the life of a child, Buddhi -an
‘abnormal’child. Debutante child actor Dhruv P Panjuani
plays the challenging role of Buddhi and his parents Ravi and Padmini
are played by Irrfan Khan and Shobana. Ravi works in the field of plastics
and his wife Padmini is a classical dancer, who gives up her career
to look after her family and child. The couple is torn apart by their
son Buddhi’s intellectual handicap problem. Buddhi displays his
flair for art, but his parents with their middle class insecurities
neither recognize nor encourages his talent. Like all parents Ravi and

who like others, must become an engineer or a doctor. Dr. Sen played
by Rajat Kapoor tries hard to make Buddhi's parents accept the reality.
Accidentally Ravi meets Dr. Sathya played by Anupam Kher – a

Buddhi a genius. But later they realise that they have to pay a heavy
price for the short-term happiness.
