After almost 15 years, I.V. Sashi - Mammootty team are in the making of this most awaited thriller - Balram V/s Tharadas. Mammootty plays a double role in this film, bringing alive the characters of Inspector Balram and Underworld don Tharadas. Both the characters are from mega hit movies of the I.v. Sashi - Mammootty - T.Damodaran team.

The underworld don "Tharadas", in the film "Athirathram", redefined malayalee's concept of a smugler, in the early 80's. The character "Balram" was widely accepted in the movies of "Avanashi" and the title role of "Inspector Balram". Both these bloack busters were from the same team.

"Tharadas" who appeared as a smugler in "Athirathram", is coming back as an International Underworld King, having business networks in London, Dubai, etc. The smart investigative officer "Balram", who was a Circle Inspector in "Aavanashi" now enters as a DYSP.

While carrying out earthwork for the construction of a private college, a large cache of arms is unearthed. Investigations lead to international business don Tara Das and his lover Supriya. The latter gets arrested. On hearing about the arrest, Tara Das flies in from Dubai. The stage is set for the war of wits between the determined police officer and the underworld kingpin.


It is double whammy for Mammooty fans as he is both Balram and Taradas. The roles have been tailor-made for him and he revels in them. Katrina Kaif, the waif-like supermodel cum Bollywood beauty, makes her first appearance in a Mallu film. She plays the role of glamorous Supriya.

T. Damodaran and S N Swamy have handled the story, script and dialogues while Sajeev Shankar has the camera.Jazzy Gift does the music and has some sizzling numbers in the film. Kaithapram handles the lyrics. The film is slated for release on March 16, 2006 .
