'Sur' directed by Tanuja Chandra and produced by Pooja Bhatt's Fish Eye network is a film different from the usual norm of conventional love stories. Yet if it will go well with the general audience needs to be seen.

Lucky Ali plays the main character Vikramaditya Singh a famous musician on the lookout for a successor who could carry on his name. He comes across Tina Marie (Gauri Karnik) with a wonderful voice, singing in a church. He takes her under his wings, grooms her in his music school and makes a gem out of her talent. But what he didn't foresee is the jealousy he feels when he realises that she may over take him. He is at the same time proud of his achievement but is unwilling to hand over the reins of his stardom to his young student.

Then the maker turns to destroyer. He tries to sabotage her budding career even to the extend of stealing one of her tunes and making it his own. Hurt and humiliated Tina goes back home. Later basking in the success of his latest album Vikramaditya realises what he has done and repents. He goes in search of Tina to her home town. Meanwhile Tina depressed and convinced that she cannot sing anymore decides to become a nun. Vikram follows her around begging her to return.

At last she relents, only to sing once with him in a concert. Vikram purposely fails to turn up forcing her to carry the show on her own. Tina overcomes her fear and sings beautifully. Vikram is happy that at last he has done the right thing...

Sur is an interesting story with all the cast giving beautiful performances. Lucky Ali moves with ease through the various emotions. His eyes says it all. This talented musician has proved that he can act as well. Gauri Karnik in her debut is impressive. Simone Singh, as Vikram's friend who has a crush for the star but understands him, does well. Harsh Vasisht, Achint Kaur, all lend credible support to their brief but well-developed characters.

M.M. Kreem's music is too good especially the numbers – 'Aa Bhi Ja', 'Dil Mein Jaagi Dhadkan Aise' and 'Tu Dil Ki Khushi'. The director narrates the story beautifully except maybe for a long post interval section. The film is sure to go well with a niche crowd of film goers..
