Horror movies seem to be the trend in Bollywood these days...Directors are churning out horror flicks one after the other and keeping the audience at the edge of their seats.. Some of them are inspired by Hollywood movies, this particular one by 'Dragon Fly' starring Kevin Costner.

Saaya is about a doctor couple Akash (John Abraham) and Maya ( Tara Sharma ) who are very much in love with each other. Tara, a physician, goes to Nagaland as a volunteer in a relief camp. There she meets with a tragic bus accident in a rain hit village. She dies and along with her their unborn child also perishes, leaving Akash shattered.

Akash alias Akki buries himself in his work at the hospital. Slowly he gets a feeling that his dead wife is trying to contact him.. through his patients who have had near death experiences. His patients mostly children says that they see her in a tunnel and that she is trying to call him to a place which they don't recognise. They also point out an unusual sign about which Akash doesn't have any clue. Akash sinks deep into the mystery searching for an answer. When he tries to share his problem with his friends, they don't believe him and thinks that he has lost his senses due to his loss. Maya's friend and their next door neighbour Tanya (Mahima Chaudhary) also finds it difficult to digest while a nun ( Zohra Segal) at the hospital explains that maybe Thara wants to convey something to Akash. The rest of the story deals with how Akash tries to solve the mystery....

The incidents have been presented realistically especially some of the sequences have been handled really well, such as when Maya tries to communicate through an ill child as well as a dead man, when Akash sees Maya through the window etc deserves credit. But the director should have given that much attention to the script as well, particularly in the latter part of the second half and the climax. The build up and the tone of the movie was effective but the unnatural climax spoils it all. Cinematography is good, background score is apt, dialogues are well written but the songs are just mediocre.

John Abraham shows promise. He has done his part extremely well. The famous model steals the show with his looks as well as histrionics. Tara looks beautiful and acts well. Mahima in her small character role makes her presence felt, Zohra Segal is okay.

If you just looking for some chills and are not worried about an absurd climax 'Saaya' might be the one for you.. it may be a disappointment if you compare it to the past releases in this genre .
