Main Prem ki diwani hoon
Cast
: Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachan, Kareena Kapoor, Pankaj Kapoor, Himani Shivpuri
Director
: Sooraj Barjatya
Music
: Anu Malik
Producer
: Rajshri productions

Rajshri productions 'Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon' is based on their earlier hit Chitchor, a light hearted movie starring Amol Palekar, Zarina Wahab and Vijayendra Ghatge.

A story of mistaken identities, the only difference from the original is in the casting and the execution. The story revolves around Sanjana ( Kareena Kapoor) who is the youngest bubbly daughter of her parents Sathya Prakash (Pankaj Kapoor) and Susheela (Himani Shivpuri). She loves her music and her pets, a parrot Raja and her dog Johnny. Susheela, her mother is obsessed with finding a perfect husband for her daughter. Meanwhile Sanjana's sister Roopa who's married and settled in America finds a prospective groom for her. He is the reserved and shy NRI tycoon, Prem Kumar ( Abhishek Bachchan) who on a trip to India to finalise a deal, is expected to come to Sunder Nagar to meet her.

There enters another Prem ( Hritik Roshan), the original Prem's childhood friend and employee, who makes the trip instead of him, following a last minute change in plan. Mistaking him for the real one, Susheela gives him the royal treatment and pressures Sanjana to fall for him. But when she realises her mistake, she changes her favour to the richer Prem but then, it is too late.

Sanjana had already fallen for the first one although they are as different as chalk and cheese and the real Prem who lands up with his mother later also falls for her. Watch the movie to see who is going to win her hand in the end
The movie has the typical Rajashri touch, famed for their light hearted down to earth entertainers with sweet characters. But they could have gone for a new theme altogether instead of rehashing their old hit. Comparisons are bound to occur and this one cannot match the charm of the original. But comparisons apart, the movie is contemporary, has its own share of fine moments handled well by the director who has churned out magic with hits like 'Maine Pyar Kiya' and ' Hum Aapke Hain Kaun'. The climax especially is brilliant sans any melodrama.

Anu Malik's music is easy on the ears with a good number of songs but no one particularly a hit. But the music merges well with the movie. Cinematography is good with beautiful locales in New Zealand and Mauritius.

Performance wise, although Karishma Kapoor yells her way through the first half she tones down and gives a spontaneous performance in the emotional second half. Not one of his best performances Hritik comes out as a bit too loud in his acting as well as in his get up. Although in a smaller role Abishek as the reserved Prem gives a charming performance. Another character who has played his role well is Pankaj Kapoor as Sanjana's father. Himani Shivpuri is okay.

The three and a half hour movie may fare well at the box office although it wont be as big a hit as Barjatya's earlier movies..
