Loosely
based on a true story, it is a comedy about the adventures of a transsexual
and a street hunter son.
Felicity Huffman plays Bree, a self contained Los Angeles transsexual women,
who was a gender male named Stanley. As a man Stanley always wanted to be a
woman all his life and he is about to go through that last step in the final
surgery of gender transformation. Suddenly he received a phone call from a 17
year old boy named Toby (Kevin Zegers) from New York who claims to be his son.
Stanley's
therapist Margaret (Elizabeth Pena) wants him to resolve his feelings
towards Toby before he undergoes the surgery. A photograph confirmed
that the boy is Stanley's son as a result of his one time sexual encounter
with a woman during his college days. So Stanley decided to fly to New
York and meet the boy Toby who is in the jail with drug charges and
theft. He bails Toby out but he didn't tell the boy that he is his father,
instead he played the role of a good Samaritan missionary. When Toby
tells Stanley that he wants to be an actor, they decided to drive from
New York to Los Angeles with a stop over in Kentucky where Toby has
a step father. When they reached Kentucky, Stanley found out that Toby
had been sexually abused regularly by his step father before. Find out
more about this father and son.
This film marks the directorial debut of Duncan Tucker with an unusual tale.
Tucker brings together a group of talented cast and draws very good performance
out of them. The characters grow with the story and make it an enjoyable
experience for the viewers. Felicity Huffman as Stanley and Bree presents a
great performance. She handles the challenging role with good care. She
practically carries the film. The rest of the cast also put up a good
performance.
The film has a serious adult theme. Also it has nudity, sexual content, bad language
as well as drug use. But it has many heartfelt moments and comical plots. As an entertainer it is not bad.
We rate this movie ABOVE AVERAGE.
