A rag to riches story of a Memphis pimp who bet his life on making a rap tape to better his life.
Terrence Howard plays DJay Memphis Blackman who is a dope dealer as well as a pimp. One day he runs into an old high school friend Key (Anthony Anderson) a sound engineer, and together they decide to produce a hip-hop album.

He sets up a make shift home studio with his pregnant girlfriend and starts to make rap music. Find out more about this dreamer and the problems that he encounters while achieving his American Dream..
Newcomer Craig Brewer successfully narrates a rag to riches story of an ordinary pimp in a typical American city. At times the story is predictable, still he tries to keep the audience pumped up with good rap music and a decent storyline. He has portrayed the DJay's relationship with his working girls very well. The movie is visually brilliant. He is trying to deliver a message :"In America, even pimps are dreaming big and trying to achieve their dream".
Terrence Howard presents a powerful performance as DJay. His ambition to become rich, his longing for better things, his determination and his anger are well portrayed. He is a kind and gentle pimp who is overwhelmed with an ambitious American Dream. Taryn Manning plays the role of sexy Nola, very well. The movie has plenty of violence, nudity and profanity, but still it is an entertainer with a decent story of a pimp with a heart of gold. It reminds you that you should hold on to your "American Dream" and if the pimps can achieve it, you could do it too.
We rate this movie ABOVE AVERAGE.
