It is a pleasant,21st century, modern day romantic comedy that deals
with the on and off romance of a young man and a young woman over a
period of several years.
Ashton Kutcher plays Oliver Geary and Amanda Peet is
Emily Friehl. He meets her in the Los Angles International Airport as
they were waiting to board a plane bound to New York. He adored her
and for him it was love at first sight. During the flight she barges
into the airplane bathroom while he is inside, and they have sex. Once
they reach New York, they spent a day together and then part. She took
his phone number, just in case she wants to call, and assures him that
she will call.
Oliver is a recent college graduate and has no job
and he had been dreaming about starting an internet company and marrying
the perfect woman. Emily is a photographer and a struggling actress.
Later he starts an internet business selling diapers but it fails. Three
years later, on a New Year's Eve, Emily is all alone after being dumped
by her boyfriend. She finds Oliver's phone number in her small black
book and gets in touch with him. They spent a romantic night together
but as Oliver was moving to San Francisco the very next day, there was
no prospect for a long term relationship. Over the next few years they
meet at random, share their moods and had some fun. Still there is "No
Love" between them it is just "A lot like love". Find out more about
this modern day "May be Love" comedy tale.
Veteran
director Nigel Cole masterfully narrates a romantic story with charm
and wit. Cole does a decent job in coordinating the actors, the flow
of the story and the plots. The script is barely memorable but the movie
is kind of charming.
Beautiful Amanda Peet as Emily presents an excellent
performance. She has charm and charisma. Ashton Kutcher puts up an impressive
show. In his old films he is either annoying or irritating, but in this
one he is adorable and proves that he can handle somewhat serious roles
without boring the audience.
Even though it is a silly story without any reality,
the movie has some entertainment value. Sometimes Oliver and Emily behave
like 10 year olds in adult bodies, but the chemistry between them is
amazing. It is fate that keeps bringing them together on and off. It
is a good teen date movie for not so serious people.
We rate this movie AVERAGE.
