Thommanum Makkalum

Director

Thommanum Makkalum is a story about a father and his two grown sons, a comedy from the director Shafi.

Thomman ( Rajan. P. Dev) and his adopted sons Sathyan (Lal) and Sivan ( Mammutty) are notorious robbers in their hometown. Both Sathyan and Sivan were orphans and thick friends who ran away from the orphanage together, when they were small. They are tough and don't care for anything or anybody other than their adopted father who they met on the streets. Thomman who had lost his family in an accident, took to the kids. The trio had been together ever since.

The movie begins with them deciding to change for good and start life all over as good hardworking citizens. They sell their home, buy a lorry and leave their hometown for good, but not before settling scores with the Police officer back home. On the way one night their lorry breaks down in the outskirts of a Tamil Nadu village, Udumalpettu. They get involved with a family there -Janardhanan and his three daughters and stay back to protect them from the wiles of Thevar, the landlord who rules the village.

The rest of the story deals with their fights with Thevar and his men, the truce between them, with Thevars daughter Poongavanam (Laya) getting engaged to Sivan, the entry of the real villain Kaliyappan; Thevar's late wife's brother who had an eye on Poongavanam, the misunderstanding caused by him between Satyan and Sivan and the inevitable happy ending..

The director has narrated the movie with humour and the story flows smoothly with an even pace. It is a very predictable fare similar to the earlier hit 'Thenkasipattanam' by Rafi-Mecartin. It has all the masala- humour, action, dance and music needed for the masses. Music by Alex Paul is lively and appealing especially 'Nerinazhagu' and the engagement song which is choreographed well. But the director could have avoided using too many bad words in the dialogues and make it look like humour.

Performances are apt. The director has made Mammootty fight, dance and sing and he carries it off quite well. Rajan P Dev as the father has a different role from the usual one. He and Lal in a humorous role has performed convincingly. Thevar, Salim Kumar and Kaliyappan who was a TV serial actor before has done justice to their roles. The female leads Laya who is a Telugu actress and Sindhu Menon are okay.

Overall the film is an entertainer which is sure to gross well at the box office.
