'Satyam' is the age old story of an honest police officer fighting the corrupt system.

Sanjeev Kumar (Pritviraj) is the son of a police head constable Ayyappan Nair (Thilakan). It was Nair's dream to see his son become a police officer. Even though Nair was an honest man, he was framed for accepting bribe and dismissed from service by his senior officer Mukunda Menon (Anant Raj), mainly because Nair had exposed Menon's corrupt ways.

Menon is so determined to take revenge on Nair as well as his family, that he makes sure that Sanjeev doesn't get selected to the police force by cooking up a police record against him. Sanjeev realizes that he cannot become a police officer as long as Menon is alive. He beats up Menon and locks him in an old mansion. He also makes sure that Menon writes a letter of leave of absence from his job saying he is going on a long pilgrimage.

A new officer (Lalu Alex) takes charge in Menon's place, who helps Sanjeev get selected to the police force and become a sub-inspector. Sanjeev cleans up the city in which ever way he can. In the mean time, Menon escapes from captivity. The rest of the movie deals with Menon trying to get even with Sanjeev.

Director Vinayan tries to present an old theme in a new way, but the end result is the same 'The Good fighting the Evil'. The story is absolutely predictable. Pritviraj presents a decent performance in his first role as a police officer. Priya Mani, who plays his love interest cum TV reporter doesn't have much to do other than put up some dances. Music is mediocre. As a whole it is watchable.

We rate it average.
