From the historical point of view the name 'Chanthu' has a bad reputation. When you hear the name 'Chanthu' the word traitor comes to mind but this film tries to change that concept.

Chanthu ( Jayasurya) is the son of a poor servant in a large household. He is taken care of by the Thampuran (Janardhanan), who educates him. Indira (Bhavana) is Thampuran's only daughter. She falls in love with Chanthu, but he doesn't want to betray Thampuran by taking away his daughter. In order to stay away from Indira, Chanthu has to come up with some story. He tells her that he is in love with another girl Vasumathy.

Chanthu decide to go to Chennai in search of a job. On the train he meets the the real Vasumathy (Navya). They become friends and live together in Chennai. But Vasumathy has a mysterious past which she doesn't reveal to Chanthu. With the help of a dance teacher Krishna (Vineeth), Chanthu becomes a movie star and the movie happens to be a big hit. Now, the film takes a turn and becomes a crime thriller.

It is an old theme, a poor boy falling in love with a rich girl or vise versa. This film doesn't have too much of substance. Vineeth presents an excellent performance. Bhavana and Navya are practically wasted. Songs by Alex Paul, producer Lal's brother include fast-paced numbers like 'Kakkoti' and 'Raina Raina', are not great either.

We rate this movie BELOW AVERAGE.
