'Yuva' is the story of three young men from three different strata of society forced to cross their paths by an accident on a bridge, and how their life gets entangled. Movie deals with the lives of these three young men and their lovers as well as people close to them.

Abhishek is Lallan, a gangster, who knows only the language of violence and wants a decent life whichever way he can achieve it. He has no fear but he is a charmer who loves his wife Sashi (Rani Mukherjee) to death.
Ajay Devgan is Michael Mukherjee, an intellectual, who turns down a chance to go abroad and achieve his PhD under Nobel laureate Weinberg and dreams of cleaning up a corrupt system. He is very active in student politics as well as the society. He fights against every social injustice that cross his path. His love Radhika (Esha Deol), is a French teacher, who wants to get married and get settled but Michael doesn't believe in marriage.
Just the opposite is Arjun Balakrishnan (Vivek Oberoi) who is an engineer, aspiring to settle down in the US. He wants to make millions and enjoy life. His love Meera (Kareena Kapoor) wants to get married and settle in Kanpur
Mani Ratnam, a dazzling storyteller, unfolds 'YUVA' in three segments and then brings all the characters together in a finale that show how the path of these people are crossed to change their lifes. Ratnam portray all central characters with realism. He very well succeeds in emphasizing Abhishek's amorality, Devgan's idealism and Vivek's protagonism throughout the movie. It was a very bold step in the right direction to produce a movie that deals with politics, corrupt politicians, political games as well as sociopolitical issues of the youth. Story is different from the usual Bollywood masala.

Movie brings together a hit man, a student leader, a drifter and their romantic life with simplicity and sharpness. Ratnam weave the story in such a way that all characters grow with their role with a remarkable process of self discovery. Viewers get the feeling that Ratnam believe in the student power which can change present India. He has presented a perfect balance of realism and make believe throughout the film.

"YUVA" belong to Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukherjee. Bachchan delivers his best performance so far in a tough role. His Lallan is violent and vicious. He has proved that he has a future in Bollywood. Bold and beautiful Rani Mukherjee handles her role with perfect balance of individual style and charisma. Both of them deserve some awards.

Kareena looks charming and gorgeous. Esha justifies her part. Devgan is excellent as usual. Vivek also played his role well. Romance between Vivek and Kareena is very entertaining. Om Puri enacts the corrupt politician with courage. A.R.Rahman's music is excellent. Mehboob's lyrics are memorable. Cinematography by Ravi Chandran is very good.
