Veer Zaara
Cast
: Shah Rukh Khan, Priety Zinta, Rani Mukherjee
Director
: Yash Chopra
Music
: Late Madan Mohan
Producer
: Yash raj Productions

Yash Chopra is back after six long years with his much anticipated film Veer Zaara, yet another emotional love saga typical of Yash Raj productions.

This film is an epic tale of love between an Indian man, Veer Pratap Singh (Shahrukh Khan) and a Pakistani woman, Zaara Hayaat Khan (Preity Zinta). The story is revealed in flash backs. A Pakistani lawyer Saamiya Siddiqui (Rani Mukerji) takes up the case of an aging Veer in a Pakistani jail. Convicted as a spy, he had been suffering quietly in jail for 22 long years. Saamiya meets Veer and tries to get to know the man.

Veer an Indian Airforce rescue pilot meets Zaara the daughter of a Pakistani politician quite accidentally. Zaara comes to India to immerse her surrogate Hindu mother's ashes in the holy river. While travelling, her bus meets with an accident and then she meets Veer. After the initial hiccups both of them fall in love. Veer takes her around Punjab, his native place. Veer an orphan was brought up by an uncle (Amitabh Bachchan) and aunt (Hema Malini). Zaara meets his uncle and aunt and they take an instant liking for Zaara.

Meanwhile Zaara's fiancée Raza (Manoj Bajpai) comes to India in search of her. The lovers are forced to part before they could express their love for each other. Zaara leaves for Pakistan but could not forget Veer. Her maid contacts him and explains the situation. Veer who reciprocates the feelings, rushes to Pakistan leaving everything behind. There he meets Zaara, and expresses his feelings in front of everyone concerned including her parents and prospective in laws. But the lovers are separated, Zaara and Raza get married and Veera is put in jail framed as a spy....will the lovers meet again??

The film has everything it takes to make it work.. romance, emotional drama, songs, beautiful shots, dialogues etc. The movie is a bit long and there are too many songs that are not really needed. The narration and execution is fab with enough dramatic sequences to keep the audience interest intact. Overall the film has a classic look with authentic settings and well made costumes. However the climax could have been better thought of.. The songs by Madan Mohan go well with the movie and the lyrics by Javed is meaningful.

Performance wise the cast does justice to their roles. Shah Rukh Khan in his umpteenth role as the forlorn lover does his act all over again with ease, Priety Zinta looks elegant and portrays her role with grace and Rani Mukherjee as the lawyer performs her role with elan. She yet again proves her mettle in the acting department. Supporting cast including Kiron Kher as Zaara's mother, Manoj Bajpai as her fiancée, Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Divya Dutta, everyone does their roles well.

Overall the movie may go well with audience who love this genre especially Chopra fans.
