Mission Kashmir

Two subjects that can fire up Indians from all parts of the world are 'religion' and 'Kashmir'. These seem to be the topic chosen by Bollywood for their recent releases. As the name suggests “Mission Kashmir” deals with the terrorism in Kashmir.

'Fatwa' by the rebel leader against policemen, leads to the death of a police officer’s son who was injured by a fall. In his zeal to wipeout the responsible terrorist leader the police officer ends up killing an entire family of civilians. The only escapee was the ten year old son of the family, who saw the destruction of his entire world by a masked man. The traumatised youth was ultimately adopted by the police officer. The boy finds out by chance that the masked man was his adopted father and runs away. The story of Mission Kashmir is based on the vengeance of the boy.

Ten years later ,the rebel boy (Hrithik Roshan) reappears on scene, directed by the rebel leader Hilal Koshistani (Jackie Shroff) sowing seeds of destruction and murder all around. The script takes a turn, when the bomb planted by Altaaf (Hrithik Roshan) meant for the police commissioner (Sanjay Dutt) kills his wife instead. The distraught youth is consoled by his childhood sweet heart Zufi (Preity Zinta) who was working as an anchor at the local TV station.

The climax of the movie comes on when the police commissioner abort the attempt by the rebels to blow up the places of worship. In typical filmy style, the good prevails over the bad and father, son and girl friend live happily ever after.

Sanjay Dutt who plays the police officer gives a mature performance, as a father who sees his son dying unnecessarily , a police officer also driven by vengence and as an adopted father torn between his love for his son and his duty. Hrithik Roshan has a difficult role but did it efficiently. Vivacious Preity Zinta has a very insignificant role ,her talent is wasted .

The music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is beautiful. 'Bumbro', 'Chupke se sunn' and 'Rind posh maal' are three melodious songs that stays on your tongue. The dance sequence of 'Bumbro' and Hrithik Roshan’s movements are graceful. The Cinematography is excellent.

Though the ending is predictable and disappointing, the over all rating of the movie is good.
