The movie directed by editor turned director Rajkumar Hirani is a light and sensitive fair which gives out a message that 'love' has the power to beat anything.

The story revolves around Munna alias Murli Prasad Sharma (Sanjay Dutt) who comes to Mumbai from his village, to fulfill his fathers dreams of seeing him become a doctor. But in Mumbai, instead of becoming a doctor, he becomes a 'dada' - a conscientious one at that, involved in kidnapping, making threats and looting only bad people. Scared of hurting his father, he hides his true job and pretends to be a doctor when his father Hari Prasad Sharma (Sunil Dutt) and his mother (Rohini Hattangadi) pays him a visit every year. The place in the Dobi ghat where he stays is turned into a spic and span charity hospital and his gang turns over, into doctors and patients.

Things go smoothly, until Hari Prasad Sharma meets his old friend Dr Asthana (Boman Irani). They fix a match between their kids, Munna, and Asthana's daughter Suman who is also a doctor. Munna's pretense falls apart when Dr. Asthana comes to know of his true identity and reveals it to his father. Munna's father, a moralistic man is heartbroken when he comes to know the truth. Seeing his father hurt, Munnabhai takes a firm resolution.. to become a real doctor. He joins a medical school to prove himself and there follows a series of hilarious situations. Will Munna make it or not ?

The first time director deserves credit for making a light and enjoyable movie out of the theme. The films fares well in the dialogue, performances and the emotional department. The screenplay suffers in the second half, where the sequences needs to be edited a bit. There is absolutely no need for the songs in the second half, it only hampers the flow of the movie. Some of the sequences are absolutely hilarious but the jokes are very 'mumbaish'.

The father son duo gives a wonderful performance especially the emotional scenes between them is portrayed really well. Sunjay Dutt as Munnabhai enacts his role as a conscientious 'dada', a concerned medical student and a caring son with ease. Veteran Sunil Dutt back in movies after a break, is a natural. It is a pleasure to watch him. Arshad Warsi as Munnabhai's right hand man gives a commendable performance. The supporting cast Gracy Singh, Jimmy Shergill, Boman Irani with their characters etched out well gives adequate support.

Overall the Munnabai MBBS is a feel good movie worth watching. It may fare well at the box office for its light moments and emotional quotient.
