Story of Fiza is based on the physical and emotional destruction caused by Hindu Muslim riots of Mumbai. It is the story of shattered dreams, lives and lost innocence of ordinary people.

Fiza (Karishma Kapoor), a stubborn Muslim girl, her naïve artistic brother Amaan(Hrithik Roshan) and unsophisticated mother NISHATBI (Jaya Bachchan) are the main characters. Lost everything in the riots, Amaan disappears after the riots. The story is woven around Fiza”s search for brother Amaan. When she found him, she brought him home and then she realizes that she only got back his body; his mind and ideology had been possessed by the rebels.

Once back home, Amaan could not tolerate every day injustices in life and he turns to violence and rejoins the rebels. The story has a powerful ending when Fiza had to shoot her brother Amaan to prevent his capture, imprisonment or execution by the Police.

Jaya Bachchan’s return is a very important event in Indian cinema. The talented Actress has done justice to her role. But Fiza (Karishma Kapoor) carries the weight of the movie. Family scenes are well taken and the interaction between the children and the mother is palpable. Amaan (Hrithik Roshan) is a loveable brother and a weak rebel. He has played the role well. The conflict between the good and the bad is expressed well.

Music by Anu Malik is good. Sushmita Sen’s dance sequence is seductive. The preview shots showing the beautiful actress’ sexy movements may have been one of the reasons why every hot blooded male wanted to see the movie.

The movie is worth watching.
