Chalte Chalte
Cast
: Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Jas Arora, Johnny Lever, Satish Shah
Director
: Aziz Mirza
Music
: Jatin-Lalit, Aadesh Srivastava
Producer
: Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla.

The usual love story ends in the line 'they live happily ever after' but in Chalte Chalte, director Aziz Mehra tell us what happens after and that it may not necessarily be happy after all.

Raj ( Sharukh Khan) an owner of a transporting company meets Priya ( Rani Mukherjee) accidentally on a trip to Mahabaleshwar. He falls for her and finds the girl of his dreams in her. She is an aspiring fashion designer from Greece. Priya, to be betrothed to Sameer (Jas Arora) in Athens doesn't fall for Raj's charms at first. But a persistent Raj follows her to Greece and makes sure she falls for him. The engagement to Sameer is called off and Priya and Raj tie the knot.

One year later the differences start cropping up.. Priya the sophisticated perfectionist cannot stand Raj's impulsive nature, his unpunctuality etc while the middleclass, hardworking Raj cannot stand the bickering and the fact that Priya's family keeps comparing him to the more successful Sameer. But some how they manage to make up after the tiffs and keep the relationship going till Rani takes a decision that makes matters reach a point of no return.

She borrows a considerable amount from Sameer to help keep Raj's company from becoming insolvent. Raj comes to know of it at a party, and he becomes wild. Emotionally high strung he breaks bottles, humiliates Priya in front of everyone including Sameer. Priya packs her bags and moves in with her aunt Anna ( Lilette Dubey). Will they get back together? Is their love strong enough to overcome the differences.

There is nothing new about the story but there are certain scenes that touch a chord in the first half when the couple meet and fall in love. Credit goes to Shah Rukh and Rani for making the first half enjoyable. But the pace slackens in the second half after the marriage, when the couple have tiffs one after the other. The dialogues are shoddy and the director should have given some attention to the editing here. Even then there are some emotional sequences which provides relief. Music by Jatin-Lalit and Aadesh Srivastava is an average fair with one or two good numbers.

Shah Rukh is his usual self. Rani looks lovely and emotes well. They look nice together. Jas Arora as Sameer performs well. Among the rest of the cast, Johnny Lever as the drunkard Nandu, Satish Shah as the Gujarati Manu Bhai are so.. so and their characters are not developed properly. Lillette Dubey as Priya's aunt is okay.

Overall the film is a watch able fare except for the slow pace of the second half.
