Armaan
Cast
: Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Preity Zinta, Gracy Singh, Randhir Kapoor
Director
: Honey Irani
Music
: Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy
Producer
: Aarti Enterprises

Armaan which is Honey Irani's directorial debut is a disappointing fare especially with expectations running high from a writer of her caliber who wrote for films like 'Lamhe', 'Ainaa', 'Kaho Na Pyar hai' etc.

It is an age old tale of sacrifice.. Dr. Sinha (Amitabh Bachchan) is a dedicated doctor with a dream of making his hospital one of the best with all hi tech equipments, giving treatment to everyone without discrimination. His adopted son Akash Sinha ( Anil Kapoor ) a neurosurgeon also shares his dream. Neha ( Gracy Singh ) joins the hospital as an anesthetist. Soon Akash and Neha fall in love .

Things move smoothly until Soniya Kapoor ( Priety Zinta) enters their lives. She is the arrogant daughter of a filthy rich industrialist (Randhir Kapoor ) who is used to having her way. She meets Akash at a party and decides that he is the one for her. Her father meets Dr.Sinha with promises to offer unlimited funds to fulfill his dream in return for his sons hand.

The story takes a turn when Dr. Sinha who is already suffering from high stress running his hospital, loses his life unexpectedly while trying to save an injured child. Akash who is at a loss by the death of his father wants to somehow fulfill his fathers dream and save the hospital from the financial crunch. He agrees to Soniya's alliance and sacrifices his love Neha. The rest of the story deals with the inner turmoil of the trio.

The story lacks freshness and is slow paced. Except for some scenes which have been very well taken there is nothing new in the film. Its the same old predictable fare seen umpteen number of times. Of the cast Amitabh has done a very good job.. he adorns a different look this time. Anil Kapoor does justice to his role and Priety Zinta plays the spoilt brat to the tilt but the sudden transformation of her character after marriage is un- convincing. Gracy Singh of Lagaan fame has done well.. .

Music by Shankar, Eshaan, Loy is good, especially the song ' Mere Zindigi mein aaye ho'. The locales are good.

Overall we rate it an average fare with good performances..
