Festivals of Assam Assam or Asom, a renowned state in India is a land of fairs and festivals. The union of people from different tribes and races has made Assam home to the most colorful festivals. The festivals of Assam are fascinating, reflecting the tradition and lifestyle of the people. Fairs are generally associated with religious functions in temples.

Festivals of Assam The foremost festivals and fairs celebrated in Assam are Bihu, Baishagu, Ali-Ai-Ligang, Baikho, Rongker, Rajini Gabra, Harni Gabra, Bohaggiyo Bishu, Ambubachi

Mela and Jonbill Mela and so on. The simplicity of Assamese is illustrated in their celebrations which usually takes place in a 'Namghar' or open space. Assamese Hindus observe Durga puja, Daul Utsava called Fakuwa, Janmashtami, Saraswati, Lakshmi and Kali pujas. The Muslims observe Id and Muharram. In some parts, the snake goddess Manasa is worshipped by tribals and non-tribals alike.
