Majority of Christians
are from Goa. Nearly,
half of the Indian Christians belong to Tamilnadu and Kerala. In North
India Christians are seen in Bengal,
Bihar, Uttar Pradesh,
Delhi and
Madhya Pradesh.
In the regions
of Jamshedpur, Tatanagar in Kolkata,
Hyderabad, Secunderabad and in the industrial
belt of Mumbai
- Pune Christians are found in Plenty.
Large communities of local Christians
are found in North India. Their presence is more strongly felt in such regions
as the hill districts of Assam, Bengal, North and South Bihar, Admednagar and
Nasik districts of Maharashtra,
Punjab and Gujarat. Bombay and Calcutta
are known for their many Churches and various Christian institutions run by priests
and nuns.
Christians of India enjoy the benefit
of a secular state and its democratic set-up. While sharing the deep-seated
religiosity of the Indian people, they are also filled with a strong attachment
to their motherland. Their patriotic sentiments enable them to be part and parcel
of modern India.
