Vallanadu blackbuck sanctuary is an isolated hillock with scrub forest in Toothukudi district situated on eastern side of Thirunelveli – Tuticorin highway at a distance of 16kms from the town. Spread over an area of 16.41square kms, the place is always having a normal cool climate because of its large number of  trees and plants . Nearly 100 species of birds can be found here and the sanctuary is home to innumerable animals, birds and other wild creatures. Some of them are black buck, spotted deer, macaques, jungle cat, mongoose, black naped hares, common quails, hornde owl etc.

Around 22kms northwest of Thoothukudi at Ottapidaram, there is a peacock farm called as Mayura Thottam having an area of 55 acres. Every year during the breeding season, large number of migratory birds visit this place.
