Pottalpudur Dargha
Pottalpudur Dargha built around the year 1674 is the oldest dargha located at Pottalpudur in Thirunelveli. Designed in Hindu temple pattern, this dargha attracts not only the muslims but the people belonging to different religion. The customs performed here is also similar to that of Hindu tradition. The nerchai distributed among the devotees is the holy ashes obtained from tamarind bark, ghee and flowers. Besides offering fruits for the worship, sheep and fowls are also sacrificed here. During the Kanthuri festival, devotees gather here with great reverence. A large amount of sandal paste is prepared in a pot and it is sent to the Hindu village of Ravanasamudram. The sandal paste is then brought back to the dargha with great pomp and is distributed among the devotees after offering to the deity. |
