Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesh Utsav alias Ganesh Chaturthi, the festival dedicated to the elephant headed God, Lord Ganesh is held on the fourth day of Bhadrapada (August -September). During Ganesh Chaturthi, idols of Ganesha with different colours, shapes and sizes are made and are installed in almost every house. These figures are worshiped in morning and evening with the offering of a sweet ball known as 'modak'. This 8-10 days long festival with various cultural programmes concludes on the day of Anant Chaturdashi. On this day, the installed idol of the lord are carried out in grand procession accompanied with music and dance for immersing in holy river or lake. Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated in Nagpur with great keenness.
