Some UK courses have a well deserved international reputation and high standards of entry. There are various department heads. Each department provides a variety of courses. The level of qualification required and acceptable by each department may differ. Some departments may accept assessments of prior experimental learning (APEL). In this case you can provide evidence of your previous acquired skills and knowledge by presenting a portfolio or taking a test. 

Some courses (where work experience forms a part of course) grant permission to work. It is a valuable opportunity for overseas students since permission to work is generally hard to get. So check out for a department having good contact with industry and business that facilitate better work placement opportunities or involve you with a relevant project which could be valuable.
