There are two regions in the state where a majority of the tourists go, viz. the Agra circuit and the Hindu pilgrimage circuit. Taj Mahal, one of the most beautiful masterpieces of architecture found in the world is located in the city of Agra, in Uttar Pradesh, on the banks of the Yamuna River.

Most important tourist places of Uttar Pradesh are Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri and Dayal Bagh, Dudhwa National Park, Bara Imambara etc.  The state is famed for its beautiful silks, brocades, carpets, brassware, inlay, intricate woodcarvings and furniture, ceramics, glass ware, carpets and cotton rugs called dhurries, leather goods, gold and inlaid jewellery.

The best time to visit Uttar Pradesh is between Octobers to the month of March as the summers are too hot and dry for comfort. As far as Agra is concerned, avoid visiting it in the month of Ramadan when Night view of Taj Mahal is discontinued for a month. The best time to visit Varanasi and Allahabad is between September and November when the monsoon rain cleanse the river and make it worth taking a dip.
