Fateh Sagar lake which lies alongside the entrance to Moti Magri hill,
is the manmade lake, located towards the north of Lake Pichola. Excavated
in 1678 during the reign of Maharana Jai Singh, the pear shaped Fateh
Sagar lake is the second artificial lake in the city, the first being
Jaisamand lake. Fateh Sagar lake was renovated in 1888 AD by Maharaja
Fateh Singhji and is named after the king. Because of its charm and greenery,
Fateh Sagar lake is sometimes referred as second Kashmir. The 2.4 km long,
1.6 km wide and 11.5 m deep Fateh Sagar lake is one among the major drinking
water source for the Udaipur citizen. This major tourist destination,
houses three small islands and is surrounded by Aravalli hills on the
three sides and the Pratap Memorial on the north. Of the three islands,

with brilliant water-jet fountains by the Government of Rajasthan and
the third one to Udaipur Solar Observatory.
