One among the five popular lakes of Rajasthan, Rajsamand lake alias Rajsamudra
Lake, in the district of Rajsamand which is about 64 Kms away from Udaipur,
between the towns of Rajnagar and Kankroli. Built in the 17th century
across the Gomati, Kelwa and Tali Rivers, with a catchment area of approximately
508 square kilometers, Rajsamand lake is approximately 1.75 miles wide,
4 miles long, and 60 feet deep. On the southern end of the lake, there
is a huge while marble embankment having marble terraces and stone steps
that touch the waters of the lake. On the embankment, there are nine beautifully
carved pavilions known as 'Nauchowki' which were constructed by Maharana
Raj Singh.
