The traditionally and culturally rich state,
Tamilnadu is bordered by the Bay of Bengal in the east, Indian
Ocean in the south, the states of Kerala and Karnataka in the
west, and Andhra Pradesh in the North. The land that has a history
spanning over thousands of years, is blessed with beautiful
hill stations, beaches and temples and is one of the major tourist
destinations in India. Madurai, Trichy, Palani, Tiruvallur,
Tanjore, Kanchipuram and Mahabalipuram are the famous temple
towns in the state.Steeped in history, the ancient Dravidian
land has hundreds of stories to share about its monuments and
temples. Most of the temples are designed in the Dravidian Style
of architecture and is famous for its sculptured 'Gopurams'
(towers). The Meenakshi Temple in Madurai, Nataraja temple
at Chidambaram, Murugan Temple in Rameswaram etc are a few of
them.
Away from the heat of the plains, delightful hill stations
like Ooty, Kodaikkanal, Yercaud, Coonor, Kottagiri and Nilgiris
in Tamil Nadu, are always an attraction to the tourists. As
the hill stations are town located, they are easily accessible.
Recreation facilities like Trekking, Hang-Gliding, fishing and
Golf etc make them viable to adventure lovers, apart from nature
lovers who depend on these hill stations for the cool atmosphere,
peaceful walks amidst nature (co-existence with nature), rejuvenation
and fun activities.
Tamil Nadu, which nearly has 1000 kms of coastal area, is famous
for its blue beaches. Marina Beach, Mahabalipuram Beach, etc
are famous for its natural beauty.
The climate of Tamil Nadu is generally tropical, with little
variations in summer and winter. April to June is the hottest
summer period, with temperatures rising up to 40ºC, and
November to Feb is the coolest period. The land will get rain
from the North-east Monsoons between October and December but
the remaining time she remains dry. The best time to visit Tamil
Nadu is between October to March, this time climate will be
pleasantly cool.

Air
Tamilnadu has a sound Airways facility to connect with all major countries.
Chennai International Airport at Tirusulam, Coimbatore International Airport
at Peelamedu are the two international Airports in Tamil Nadu.The Chennai Airport
has two terminals, Kamaraj Terminal and Anna Terminal for domestic and International
services respectively. Major airlines like Indian Airlines, Spice Jet, Kingfisher
Airlines, Sri Lankan Airlines, Jet Lite, Silk Air, Air Arabia, Paramount Airways
and Jet Airways operate flights out of Coimbatore Airport. Other Major Airports
include, Tuticorin Airport at Vakaikulam, Madurai Airport in Madurai City, Selam
and Tiruchirappalli.
Rail
The state has well settled railway lines to all over India.It has railway track
length of 6,693-kms and there are 690 railway stations. Chennai is the headquarters
of Southern Railway. Egmore Junction and Chennai Central Station are the important
stations in Chennai, Interstate trains originate from Chennai Central Station.Coimbatore
also has two major stations named Coimbatore junction and North Coimbatore station.
Tiruneveli is busiest railway station in Tamil Nadu.Madurai is another important
railway junction of the Southern Railway.Selam, Erode Junction, Kodai Road,
Mayiladuthurai etc are the few other stations in Tamilnadu.
Road
Tamilandu has nearly 1.70 lakh kms length of road network. Private bus operators
connect the important cities and Govt Buses perform the entire south. The inter
state buses by State Express Transport Corporation connect Tamilnadu with neighboring
states like Kerala and Karnataka. The state has thousands of buses though different
routes which helps to connect small villages and towns with the city and the
charges are also very nominal.
Port
Tamilnadu has two major ports named Chennai Port and ThoothukudiPort. Chennai
port is the third oldest port in Tamilnadu. It has completed 126 years of brilliant
service in the nation's marine trade. It has Terminal Shunting Yard and running
their own Railway operations inside the harbour. The state has two intermediate
ports at Cuddalore and Nagapattinam and twelve are Kattuppalli, Ennore, Thiruchopuram,
PY-3 Oil field, Tirukkadaiyur, Pamban, Rameswaram, Valinokkam, Punnakkayal,
Manappad, Kanyakumari and Colachel
