Vishwanath Temple (New Vishwanath Temple)
 

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the white marbled New Viswanath Temple, located in the premises of Banaras Hindu University was planned by Madan Mohan Malavya, the founder of BHU. This replica of Kashi Vishwanath Temple, is sometimes referred as Birla Temple as it was built by Birla family. The dome of the temple rises to a height of 252 feet and the walls are adorned with magnificent figures of Hindu Gods and Goddesses and verses from Geeta. A Siva lingam is kept inside the temple at its center. The temple is open to all people irrespective of religion, caste and creed from 10 am to 5 pm. It will be closed on Wednesdays. Besides Vishwanath temple, the massive temple complex consists of seven other temple also.
