Varanasi alias Banaras, famed for its Banaras Saree, has earned international approval for beautiful silk saris with elaborate floral patterns and golden thread works with vibrant colors . Handicrafts items, carpets, brassware, copperware, ivoryware, stone inlay work, classes beads and bangles, wood and clay items are available here. The Emporia and Souvenir shops are good place to purchase authentic and good stuffs. The other things to shop at the city are stone carved items created by the efficient craftsmen that includes beautiful utility items and objects d'art from stone, candle stands, ashtrays, jewelry boxes. The city is famous for its Gharana music and dance and instruments used for this concert are manufactured in large scale here. Another renowned item is the Kamandalam or the brass pot of Varanasi (which is often used by the saints to carry water) which are displayed in most of the shops . Zardozi from Agra, embroidered fabric from Lucknow, leather works of Kanpur are also some of popular items. 

Temple bazaar, Thatheri Bazar , City Chowk, Vishwanath gali, Gyanvapi and Godaulia are some of the major shopping areas of the city.
