City Palace Museum also known as Pratap Museum, located inside the city
palace complex has a remarkable collection of ancient sculptures, antiques,
artifacts and inscriptions of the bygone era. The city palace museum,
entered through the 'Ganesh Deori' meaning the door of Lord Ganesh, is
divided into several pavilions and halls, each with a distinct theme of
its own. The interior of the museum is adorned with priceless artwork,
beautiful paintings, inlay glass work, antique furniture and colourful
enamel. Armory gallery, manak mahal or ruby palace, moti mahal or pearl
palace, chini mahal are some among the galleries in the city palace museum.
There is a gallery devoted to the legendary warrior Maharana Pratap and
his horse Chetak that displays the original armor and weapons used during
the great battle of Haldighati in 1576.
The antique paintings of Mewar, the turban of prince Khurram later on
called Shahajahan, who built world fame Taj Mahal has been displayed on
City Palace Museum as a token of friendship of Maharana Khazan Singh.
Another attraction of city palace museum is the 'Zenana Mahal' (which
was used as the women's private living quarters) that exhibits arms and
armor, paintings and photographs, majestic insignia, processional accouterments
and various other objects that reveals the royal legacy and conventions
of the Maharanas of Mewar and Sisodia.
City Palace Museum is open on all days from 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.
