Located 82 km south on the main road from Gurgoan to Alwar, Ferozpur Jhirka
is the headquarters of a taluk which was founded by Firoz Shah Tughluq.
The town, built as a military post for putting down neighbouring turbulent
tribes, is bordered by a magnificent wall which is now in ruins. This
place is called Jhirka because of a Jhir, a spung, from a perennial stream
which issues from a number of fissures in the rocks nearby. The old part
of the town is rectangular in shape.
