Jodhpur International Desert Kite Festival
 

The International kite festival of Jodhpur is held annually for three days during Makar Sankranti. The festival commence on 14th January, by an inaugural ceremony at the Polo Ground followed by Air Force helicopters releasing kites from high above the sky and the releasing of balloons by numerous school children. During the kite festival, the sky gets filled up with various designs and colors of kites. The festival involves loads of fun, excitement and thrill and all age groups of people take part in this festival to show off their kite flying skills. 

During International Kite festival, two competitions are conducted namely, the Fighter Kite Competition and the Display Kite Competion. The best kite flyers from various parts of the world participate in these competitions. The finals of the competitions are held at the lawns of the Umaid Bhawan Palace, the royal residence of the Maharaja of Jodhpur. On the final day, prizes are distribute among the winner in both categories which will be followed by the valedictory function and a farewell dinner with the Maharaja.
