Hawa Mahal

The renowned edifice in Jaipur, Hawa Mahal alias Palace of Winds is an integral part of the city palace located next to the entrance. Designed by Lal Chand Usta and built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in 1799, this five storied pyramid shaped structure with red and pink sandstone is noted for its Rajputana style of architecture. It was especially built for the ladies of the harem with an intention to allow them to watch the royal processions during festivals and the everyday life of the city through its latticed windows. It remains opens on all days from 9.am to 5.pm, except Friday. Best time to visit is October to February.
