Bhojpur
 

Bhojpur, a small town situated 28 kms away from Bhopal, possess great historical and religious importance. The place is named after its founder King Dhar Raja Bhoj of Parmara Dynasty (1010-1053) and is renowned for the the marvelous 11th century Bhojeshwar temple devoted to Lord Shiva and remnants of Cyclopean dam. The town and its attractions are proved to be the best visiting spots and most popular Bhopal excursions. Cyclopean dam located on the western side of Bhojpur, constructed by King Bhoj on a vast lake is now lay in ruins. During the olden days, Cyclopean dam was marvel. 

Bhojpur also houses a Jain temple containing a 6m high (20 feet high ) black statue of a Thirthankara and smaller statues of Parsvanath and Suparasnath. The style and architecture of the temple which is incomplete is similar to that of Bhojeshwar temple. A very colourful and big mela is organised here on the occasion of the festival 'Maha Shivratri'.
