Chandramouleshwara Temple

Chandramouleshwara temple, located at Unkal, 5km from Hubli town on Hubli-Dharwad road is dedicated to Lord Shiva (Chandramouleshvara). Built by Chalukyans, this 900 year old beautiful temple is one of the best example of the Chalukya style of architecture. The walls of the temple are adorned with sculptures and the pillars are carved out of black granite stones. Besides the two big Shivalingas, the temple houses images of dancing Lord Ganesha and Jaalandhra which are worth visiting.

Due to its national importance, the Chandramouleshwara temple is declared as a protected monument by the Archeological Survey of India under the Ancient Monuments and Archeological Sites Act 1958. The picturesque Nrupatunga hill is situated opposite to the temple. The other nearby attractions are the Unakal circle and Unakal Lake.
