Q Dear Dr Kumar, Regards I am in a situation here where through online search my query has not been able to get an answer to. Currently I am doing my Post Graduation in Psychology(M.A) and building in this massive interest for COGNITIVE NEUROSCIENCE. Online sources suggest Medical Background as in atleast Bachelor's degree in Maths,Physics or any other science stream if I want to pursue any further studies in this field. I do understand its a field of science and I have no such background and its a basic requirement that has to be met to get into. Is there any way I can makeup for the same.Any side course that I can get enrolled myself into as I am quite enthusiastic on getting into this study major. I hope Sir you be able to help and guide with regards to the same. Thanks. Divya

Dear Divya,

I have been searching for an option for you and something more feasible came across. If you are truly passionate and have basic knowledge (that you can prove) about cognitive neuroscience, I would suggest you to first go for a short term internship related to it. Whatever silly or insignificant work (in the worst case scenario) you would do, during internship, it plays a big role for your next step- that you have done an internship in cognitive neuroscience. It is necessary for you to prove that you are capable and competitive for pursuing further study in this field. So your first step is -- internship. OK?

Now, you might wonder how do you get internship?. Well, make a covering letter/ statement of purpose that clearly states your abilities and passion about the field. Search the institutions/ universities/ hospitals ( which perform research activities) and contact respective people. Please note that you have to contact 10s of people to get a single reply. Its normal. Keep sending your CV along with covering letter/ sop. I wish best of luck that you will find an internship.

Ok, what next after internship?. You have already familiar that cognitive neuroscience is research oriented field. During your internship, try to get suggestions and directions from your mentor and get in the field as a researcher. It is a wonderful career.

Best wishes
Rupesh.
