| 1 | He can join Merchant Navy on the basis of X or XII. The initial training & other formalaties are almost of same for all the two, only difference is if he enters on the basis of X he will require 36 months of seatime, after XII he will have to require 18/24 months of seatime to be eligible for Officer examination on Deck / Engine side.... |

| 2 | You cant join Merchant Navy on the basis of HSC commerce in India. Some countries for e.g. Fiji allow the same but their qualifications may not get you a job easily in India. Alternatively, you can join on the basis of your Class X by doing a GP Rating Course and later giving 2nd Mates exam from UK to become a Deck Officer. |
