In research position, you can focus on planetary cartography if you have flair for planetary exploration and GIS. The 'Planetary Data System' at pds.jpl.nasa.gov has data available of all missions. Remote sensing and GIS can surely be applied for Earth also, however, with increasing attention to conquer the space, planetary aspects can provide you a leap extra in career. NASA authorities have more humanitarian outlook. They have special programs to encourage students with disabilities to pursue careers in science, technology, and engineering. You can find detailed information at: intern.nasa.gov and nasajobs.nasa.gov/studentopps/default.htm
