Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders Society of India, with
the financial aid of SIR DORABJI TATA TRUST launched a new project in the name
“Comprehensive Dementia Care Program” (CDCP) in Cochin Corporation with an
objective of making Cochin as the first “dementia friendly city “ in India.
The CDCP commenced on 01 September 2004. Prior to this Program, another Project
“Urban Community Dementia Services” funded by Help Age India was functional.
As the preliminary step to launch the program, a team of officials was selected
following the guide lines of Tata Trust, the funding agency and ARDSI
AIM

To create awareness about dementia.

To identify cases of dementia at the early stage

To impart training to community health workers

To provide day care and community care services.

To undertake study on existing care arrangements.
The memory clinic in Indira Gandhi Co-operative Hospital,
Kadavanthra, Cochin, is functioning every day from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. To
apprise the facility of memory clinic, frequent visits by officials are made to
nearby hospitals and clinics.
