Aseema is a non-governmental organization, registered under
the Bombay Public Trusts Act whose mandate is to protect and promote human
rights of underprivileged children and women. It was established in 1995 and is
located in Bandra, Mumbai.
Aseema draws inspiration from the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the
Child (1989) which recognizes the right of every child to education. Aseema's
firm belief is that education is the right of every child. The Government of
India has committed to make primary education free and compulsory for all
children. Yet this commitment has been left grossly unfulfilled. Even amongst
children who do initially enroll in school, most do not continue with formal
education and often give up their pursuit altogether.
Aseema focuses on providing quality and relevant education and inculcating in
underprivileged children a desire to learn and to continue and complete their
studies in an educational institution.
