Mumbai Kidney Foundation (MKF) is a project of Jivan
Jyot Charitable Trust endeavoring to brighten the lives of chronic
kidney disease(CKD) patients.It is a small effort launched on the auspicious
occasion of the first World Kidney Day (9th March 2006) for education,
prevention, treatment of kidney disease and rehabilitation of kidney patients.
Launch of Mumbai Kidney Foundation
On this landmark occasion,a group of philanthropists and NGOs working for the
welfare of kidney patients have taken this first step of launching the Mumbai
Kidney Foundation, a charitable organization helping in prevention and treatment
of kidney disease in Mumbai. It is a project of Jivan Jyot Charitable Trust
which is already an existing NGO since last 10 years, active in the field of
education and health. It is already running an ICCU at no profit, no loss basis
at V.N Desai municipal hospital at Santacruz and a 10-bedded dialysis centre at
Siddharth municipal hospital, Goregaon (W).
The Mumbai Kidney Foundation would be of the CKD patients, by the CKD patients
and for the CKD patients.
The aims and objectives of Mumbai Kidney Foundation are as follows:

Spreading awareness and educating the public about the
CKD problem especially amongst diabetics, hypertensives and relatives of
kidney disease patients.

Helping such high-risk patients in doing screening tests
and guiding them for further treatment.

Holding periodic Kidney disease detection camps.

Subsidising treatment of kidney disease patients.

Promoting awareness of Organ Donation.

Establishing a Drug-Bank to subsidise medicine cost for
CKD patients.
After its launch on 9th of March, a series of awareness of
kidney diseases and kidney disease detection camps were conducted by the Mumbai
Kidney Foundation.
The activities of the camps were as follows:

Clinical examination of patients for diabetes, blood
pressure and kidney diseases.

Free blood and urine tests.

Free medical advice based on results of the tests.

Providing educational material on diseases like
hypertension, diabetes, kidney failure, kidney stones, etc. |
