Hi,

Hope you are pursing science stream, with physics and mathematics. After the completion of 12th, you have to pursue the line of B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. for a successful career in Astronomy as a scientist. Or else you can opt for an integrated course offering Integrated M.Sc. / M.Tech - Ph.D Programme in selected Institutions in India. In order to fly high with a good career, ultimately you need to acquire Ph. D. Degree in Astronomy, Physics or related disciplines. The other option is the Engineering stream.

(1) 'At your position right now, the option you need to select is whether you want to pursue a science or engineering stream'. As you might be knowing, various radiations are emanating out of the Sun. Theoretical work can involve the estimation of the amount of flux radiating out of the Sun at various wavelengths, Observations and Instrumentation include designing of various sensors for use in various satellite or ground-based missions to observe the emanating flux. Numerous opportunities are available for a dedicated prospective student. (2) Thus, 'Theoretical, Observational and Instrumentation opportunities are your next choices'. (3) 'A graduation in Physics or Mathematics is apt for science stream'. In order to get into a science stream through post-graduation in Astronomy, competitive examinations like Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) or Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM) for I.I.Sc., Bangalore have to be cleared. 'Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)' is essential to join undergraduate engineering programs at NITs, IIITs. (4) Qualify GRE and TOEFL for pursuing graduation courses abroad, especially for universities in United States.

Right now, grab a good Binocular and start exploration of the sky at Morning, Evening and Midnight moments! That would definitely give you an insight into the discipline.
