Q I am growing red pumpkin in pot in my terrace. It is growing aggressively with lots of leaves, flowers and some fruits. But when the fruit is lemon size it becomes soft, shrinks, becomes black and falls. Can you suggest me what i can do to save the fruit. I will be happy even if i get one pumpkin fully grown.

Your fruit must be kept or grown in a shade area although plant may be in the sun.Pumpkin cannot get enough nutrition in growing in pots. Small fruitlets cannot get water in hot days that too in terrace.Humans cannot tolerate the hot sun, what will the plant do? grow it in shade or in ground

Hi geetha, well i think the problem is because your growing it in the terrace there is a lack of natural pollination.. i would suggest u manual or artificial pollination. Pick out a male flower (one without the fruit attached below) remove the petals (u can spot the pollen grains inside) and then spot a female flower (one which has a lemon sized fruit below it) Now insert the male flower into the female flower r rub it softly so that the pollen grains get sticked inside the female flower after this it is generally preferred if u close the petals (tie is with a string) of the female flower so that the pollen grains doesn't fly away. The pollination will be successful if you see the female flower wilted after a day or two Happy Gardening ! :)

Hi Geetha, When you say lots of flowers - they are male flowers, and what you are referring to as fruits, are actially female flowers with a lemon size fruit below the flower, if you find them dropping it means that pollination has not taken place. The low or no pollination may be result of lack of natural pollinators such as bees or wind.
